NICKERSON, Ray Albert

January 7, 1934 - May 5, 2010

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ray Albert Nickerson of Langley, BC.

Ray will be dearly missed but lovingly remembered by his son, Barry (Cathy), daughter Lisa (Freddy), nine grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, his sister Colleen and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Ray was born in Fairview, Alberta, the second youngest of 10 children. Shortly after, the family moved to Vancouver and then on to the Sechelt Peninsula where Ray spent his youth. Ray left school when he was 16 and enlisted in the Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry (PPCLI).

In November, 1950 his battalion left for Korea to serve with the United Nations force seeing action in Pusan, Seoul, and Kapyong.

After his tours of duty in Korea, Ray remained in the Canadian Armed Forces serving across Canada and with the United Nations Peacekeeping forces in the Congo, Egypt and Cyprus until his retirement in 1968 when he joined the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).

In the 70's Ray moved on to private industry and worked for several companies including Panasonic, GSW and Midas until his retirement in the early 80's when he returned to British Columbia.

Ray had a life-long love of animals, primarily dogs and horses; always carrying a dog treat or an apple in his pockets. An avid member of many cutting-horse associations over the years winning many awards and trophies; his passion for horses and rodeos never ended. Funeral mass will be held at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, 20675 - 87th Avenue, Langley on Saturday, June 12, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. Father John McCarthy officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations to the St. Nicholas Building Fund, St. Nicholas Church would be greatly appreciated.
