HENSHAW, Rodger Clive

of Langley, British Columbia, died suddenly on May 18, 2005.


Born in Edinburgh, Scotland on May 14, 1934, the second son of the late Charles and Jean (nee Rodger) Henshaw. Educated at Merchiston Castle School, Edinburgh, Rodger played for the 1st XV in Rugby. His National Service from 1952 - 1954 was with the RAF training as a pilot in Canada where he earned his wings. He flew part-time thereafter with No. 603 (City of Edinburgh) squadron as a weekend pilot on Vampire Jet fighters. In 1957 he assumed command of the Air Cadet gliding school at RAF Turnhouse instructing youthful enthusiasts in the art of gliding.


In civillian life Rodger joined the firm of Charles Henshaw and Sons ultimately becoming Managing Director of the company until its eventual conglomeration.


Married in 1967 to Avril Gunn, Alice was born in 1969 and Clive followed in 1970. Tragically, Avril died in 1977 following a courageous fight with Cancer.


Rodger moved his family to Canada after he married Joan France (nee Whitelaw) in 1979. In British Columbia he continued his enthusiasm for innovative development and business consultancy until his death.


Rodger was a devoted nature lover, while attempting to control the wilderness he was delighted to share the property with the Whitetail deer who returned every year to their traditional fawning grounds here. Once could frequently see him accompanied by froliking fawns, or talking o a doe among the raspberries. All to soon the mature bucks would arrive to start their winter migration.


Husband, father and grandfather he was devoted to his family. Survived by his wife Joan, children Alice (Terry) Mackay, and Clive (Coral), grandchildren Keaton, Avril and Lauren; step-chiildren Nina and Mike and step-grandchildren Virginia and Degan.


Rodger was pre-deceased by his sister Joan.


A private funeral was held following cremation.
