It is important to have fish in the Brydon Lagoon, as it is a major migratory flyway for waterfowl from fall to spring. Without fish, the waterfowl will have nothing to eat.
Francis Cheung was quoted as saying that Langley City does not stock fish in there [City lagoon fish casualties of heat wave, Aug. 7 Letters, Langley Advance], yet if the City does not help with the continuation of the fish supply, there will be a loss of habitat for the migrating waterfowl.
We need city council to authorize the spending needed to get the lagoon’s aerators functioning properly, and maybe add more if that is what is needed to keep the water oxygenated.
We have noticed that many more people are using the lagoon as a place to walk, take photographs, bike (you have to walk your bike directly around the lagoon), and use their binoculars.
Brydon Lagoon is connected to a beautiful trail system with the Nicomekl River pathway, and into Hi-Knoll Park into Surrey, that we all can enjoy if the City will continue to support it financially, keeping it functioning well.
