It really appears that there is a misunderstanding among the citizens of Fort Langley and the greater community.
There are not two sides against the building at the corner of Glover Road and Mavis Avenue, the so-called Coulter Berry building.
No one is against the building. All look forward to a more suitable size, but look forward to a building.
Most citizens in the entire country would be against spot zoning in a heritage-covenanted area, if the plan did not conform to the Official Community Plan and Guidelines.
People would worry about all the other builders wanting to do the same, so it would set a difficult precedent.
Most builders automatically follow municipal building plans and guidelines. Shouldn’t the community and council be fair to everyone?
What is the use of spending tax money and experts’ time on OCPs if they have no real weight and meaning? Are the plans not put in place with the future of the community in mind, as well as the economy of the area?
It would seem the answer to all those questions is that we should all follow the rules, or take time and expertise to create better ones.
