The opponents of the Coulter Berry development are not against change. We embrace it.
The issue is that the last 10 building projects in Fort Langley were told they must conform to the guidelines. They did not have a choice.
There is an investiture to maintain the village feel which brings more people to our community.
The right thing to do was to change the guidelines before the development application. This would have ensured all stakeholders having a say in the look and feel of the village.
Sadly, this was not the case. In fact, the Township has been lacking in providing unbiased information for Langley residents to decide.
Consider this: by abiding to the Heritage Conservation Area such as height and density, there are some benefits. Mainly parking credits.
On the average there are about 10 parking credits per application. This development has 70 parking credits, a number far exceeding any previous development.
There are only 200 street parking spots. Parking is an issue here in the village.
We are increasing density using the same parking model. Where are those cars going to park?
Where is the long-range planning for Fort Langley?
Every zone has a height and density restriction. Can I build a 48-foot-high house beside you and call it “change?â€
We want to see a building built, however let’s do it right.
