As the news of the Kinder Morgan pipeline looms closer, it would seem most important that our council and Township staff experts work together to prevent this threat to our farmland, rivers, and future generations.
I understand that the Trans Mountain Pipeline which was installed in the area over 62 years ago (which Kinder Morgan is proposing to twin) has a life span of 80 years. This is a frightening prospect!
Unable to proceed through the now populated Walnut Grove area, the understanding is that Kinder Morgan proposes to cross valuable Langley farmland, through important Langley and Fort Langley rivers and floodplains.
Apparently, all this is to pipe in bitumen and gas to other countries, with little benefit to B.C.
Langley and the rest of the province are taking huge risks which will hardly benefit the province, and certainly not our municipality.
Added to the above is the shipping of coal by train and barge to other countries, which really makes me wonder if any of our politicians know the meaning of “global†and the effects our products will have on all future generations.
We should join the other municipalities that are refusing to allow further pipelines to be put in, and let us try to provide more controls for aging pipelines that are already leaking.
