Dear Editor,

[Re: Williams Park reprieve, Langley Advance Times, Oct. 26]

As a member of this Langley community for the past 11 years, nothing has been met with more anticipation and gleeful joy than the free drive-thru event that is Christmas in Williams Park.

In a world filled with busyness and carpooling, school concerts and kids practices, this event has always filled our boots with the generous and uplifting nature of gazing at the free displays. We could stop for a minute, just breathe and listen to the screams of joy as our children ached to get a better view out the steamy windows of our minivan. What better way to spread joy?

When there is so much strife and suffering happening in our world, wars and rumours of war, funding of such things. Shouldn’t we propose to keep our spirits lifted? Should we not do everything we can to rally our neighbors and friends, and invite them out to see that there still is a way to enjoy our parks, to slow down for a moment and enjoy this community uplifting event?

Please realize that the people of Langley need this event. It’s a free, wholesome and feel-good space to just be for a moment amidst a bustling and chaotic world. Keep funding such things!
