I am in agreement of the opinion piece put forth by M.C. on the need for RCMP transparency. ( see below attached image). I would go so far as to say this communication gap is also applicable to municipal forces.

I am not a reporter, but having been a police member during team policing era, I do know how important it is to have that communication with the public. To me, as an example, the information they request from the public related to vehicular incident’s, is not reciprocated by them to inform the public in a timely manner. The standard comment: the investigation is ongoing, becomes monotonous and over used.

On another note, I would go so far to say the RCMP mandate should be policing federal issues. Issues of national/international safety concerns. It is, after all, the Royal Canadian mounted police. They need to change with the times and reflect Canadian values of policing.
