Dear Editor,

So the solution to tackle high food prices is to shop by using flyers and coupons.

I can imagine the carbon footprint will increase as we all start driving around to each food outlet to utilize these tactics of affordability. I forgot to mention we will have to add on the cost of gas to get there and the added time taken out of our lives to coordinate this process.

Let’s not forget the people who have disabilities and mobility issues are they going to be able to wheel themselves around to each outlet to take advantage of one coupon or different flyers from different stores? Pensioners and people who are on fixed incomes who don’t drive are they suppose to take the bus or scooter to each store and carry their groceries home back with them to save? Are we suppose to bulk buy to save? Are we suppose to get a bigger fridge or freezer to save?

Coupons and flyers have been around since the invention of print and people still go hungry.

The federal government needs to stomp down on food inflation and get a grip that this fly by night solution they have come up with is nothing more a manipulation tactic that can be used by the grocers and not the stabilization and lowering of food prices. Food prices across the board need to be lowered now not on a weekly or monthly flyer or a cut out coupon.

We all shop on our needs so if there is no coupon or flyer covering those needs how do we save money? Prices are high and they keep getting higher will there be a coupon that says 50% off on everything in the store for the month? I think not.

Here is the deal for the century: Lower the prices of food across the board now and there will be people who can afford to feed themselves. Here is the deal for the month: Lower the prices now and there will be less carbon emissions from travelling around to each grocery store to cash in on coupons. Here is the deal for the week: pensioners and people who are the working poor and families, and people with disabilities need to know their income is not going to be ate up by the instability of food prices, so print a global flyer stating food will be cheaper now and into the future. Here is the deal for the day: “sorry the flyers and coupons aren’t out yet, come back next week.” “Oh, I’m being so silly when it comes to my appetite and what will be on the dining room table that I feel I must clip my silliness from me and paste it into my coupon book.”

Really, has our ability to look after ourselves become a coupon or a flyer? Has our future become a discount!

One last chance Canada for a deal we can’t refuse and that deal is ___________(fill in the blanks).
