Dear Editor,

[Re: Mayors diverge on Victoria’s 4-plex plans, Langley Advance Times, Nov. 16]

We should not act in haste, expending a lot of resources in response to the provincial governments drastic proposals of density increases.

It’s quite possible they have over-reacted and gone beyond their authority in interfering with local municipal planning.

Traditionally, under provincial guidance, planning has been delegated to the municipalities which have been required to coordinate their planning, infrastructure and budgets with their projected growth, etc.

The province does not do the local planning but wants to have it both ways with extreme measures by throwing a wrench into the gears.

This government has a reputation of taking broad sweeping measures without proper consultation as in this case.

The municipalities need to get together and challenge this in court.
