Dear Editor,

I’m writing to create awareness of the rapidly increasing popularity of pickleball and the lack of facilities in the Township to accommodate the number of players.

We currently have four stand alone outdoor courts at West Langley which comprise the total inventory of courts in the township.

These courts are overflowing with players of all ages and abilities 12 months of the year as long as it is not icy, rainy or snowy.

If the weather is inclement people play at the Walnut Grove Community Centre. If you have not signed up within the first five minutes it is filled, and there is no place to play.

Langley City which is much smaller has eight outdoor courts and indoor pickleball at Timms Community Centre. Surrey has 36 outdoor courts and six community centres in which to play.

The Township has been spending millions on recreational facilities which is wonderful, but is ignoring the fastest growing sport in North America. It is time to fix the problem.
