Dear Editor

I was very pleased to learn of the recent decision by the Translink Mayors Council’s unanimous support and commitment to Phase 2 of Translink’s 10-year-plan that includes Surrey-Newton-Guildford LRT, additional expansion of bus and HandyDART service and road improvements throughout the region.

I am also pleased to reinforce that the Federal Government’s $2.6 Billion commitment to the province for transit infrastructure (including transit south of the Fraser) through the Public Transit Infrastructure Fund (PTIF) is secure. This funding includes a 40% cost share from the Federal Government. Working in cooperation with our municipal and provincial partners, we look forward to improved public transit and decreased congestion in the fast growing South of Fraser Region.
