Smaller community rec centres closed during COVID have not reopened

The Township is planning an LEC expansion. (Langley Township/Special to the Langley Advance Times)

Dear Editor,

I am writing to express my concerns regarding recreation facilities.

Neighborhood fitness centres were created for the physical and mental health of those living in the Township.

Facilities closed during COVID and although our population continues to grow, some are still closed. Specifically Willoughby and Willowbrook. Why? Where are our tax dollars going?

These centres served nearby residents of all ages and abilities. People were able to walk or cycle there. They also provided a valuable social connection.

Meanwhile our Township plans a huge new soccer field.

I see no problem with a soccer field provided other fitness facilities are open.

Our community needs the existing closed centres to reopen without further delay.

Linda Nash, Willoughby
