Letter: Rights limited unfairly

Dear Editor,

Councillor Bob Long said the images of a logging truck and a birds nest (from a different area which was not affected) was convincing enough to flip-flop and vote against private property rights, to institute a tree bylaw.

I doubt that Bob Long would overreact to PETA images of cows being slaughtered at an abattoir and limit the number of steaks his restaurant can serve.

I doubt that Councillor David Davis of Davistead Farms would consent and vote to reduce his milk quota’s based on some negative images of mad cow disease.

But they have no problem limiting our acreage trees that we can selectively reduce.

To add insult to confiscation, we now have neighbour pitted against neighbour with a Tree-Cutting Hotline so we can rat each other out every time a chainsaw cuts some firewood.

Like we need more tax-wasting, heavy-handed bureaucracy.
