Letter: Stupid war suffered throughout life

Dear Editor,

I just had to let you know how much I enjoyed reading Bob Groeneveld’s column [War is hell… and really stupid, July 29 Odd Thoughts, Langley Advance].

I remember my grandfather telling me stories about the First World War.

I don’t believe that he thought all the suffering and hell was worth it; he suffered for the rest of his life from shell shock, as they called it then.

I couldn’t agree with Bob more. It is really stupid, and amazing how otherwise intelligent people make the decisions they do.

I guess a few million lives here or there doesn’t make much difference in the scheme of things.
