Letter: Thanks to all who helped with British Invasion fundraiser

Editor: I wanted to send out a special thank you to those who attended our British Invasion event on Sept. 15 and tell them how much we enjoyed watching them taking part in all the crazy contests, which brought lots of smiles and laughter — kids and those with the kid still living in them.

Editor: I wanted to send out a special thank you to those who attended our British Invasion event on Sept. 15 and tell them how much we enjoyed watching them taking part in all the crazy contests, which brought lots of smiles and laughter — kids and those with the kid still living in them.

Our look-alikes were surprisingly very close to the real celebrities, who we were looking for — even Kate and William, as we found a family with mom, dad, little girl, little boy and No. 3 on the way. Pretty Fun!

The “Beatles,” George, Paul, John and Ringo were amazing under the name of “The Day Trippers,” who totally captured the theme of our evening.

A shout out of thanks goes to the amazing Surrey Firefighters’ Pipes N’ Drums band who donated their time and talent to come out and perform their magic with bagpipes and drums filling the air with the sound that makes one’s heart stop as you stand in awe of these amazing instruments played by the amazing people who love what they do.

I absolutely love this group so much. You can catch them at the Fort Langley Cranberry Festival on Oct. 7.

Thank you to the army of volunteers who were there working with us including Surrey firefighters, City of Langley firefighters, a Burn Fund representative, Terry Gray (Lights), Dave Mercer and Bob (sound techs) Russ Davies from Fresh Air Cinema (giant movie screen), Salty’s Fish n’ Chips, Ben’s Bar-B-Q, Cravings Kettle Corn, all of which caused these wonderful scents to waft through the air beckoning us to “come n’ get it.”

Thanks to Envision Financial for loaning us their wonderful big tents, under which we had several beautiful picnic tables for folks to sit together and enjoy good conversation during their food break.

Thank you, too, to the tent guys who came out to set those big tents up in just minutes, to Cloverdale Rodeo and Exhibition who welcomed us and worked with us from start to finish.

Their ground crew were absolutely amazing as they worked right alongside us, moving tables, bringing anything we might have forgotten. We even had their help setting up and cleaning up.

Thank you to all of you great folks.

Thanks to Steve Williams for bringing out his vintage ambulance and to Joel Neufeld for the awesome vintage fire truck.

And to all those who donated prizes — Black Pudding British Imports , MOPAC, JOYTV, thank you so very much. To those who helped advertise and get the word out about the event, METV, JOYTV, Langley Times, Cloverdale Reporter and other Black Press papers.

I personally want to add a note that the events put on by the Ron Dunkley Memorial Society are not just to raise funds, they are to bring families together and create a time that we can all remember as having fun and just enjoying being together and enjoying the moment.

Since losing my son, those moments have become vitally important to me because we just never know how many we have left with our loved ones.

Thank y’all for all your love and support I have received since returning from Nashville. It is so very much appreciated.

Sandy Dunkley,

Langley
