Letter: Unwanted ‘update’ invasion of privacy

Dear Editor,

I read Bob Groeneveld’s column [Excitement shared by force, June 9 Odd Thoughts, Langley Advance] and this whole issue of updating to Windows 10 occurred almost exactly the same with my computer.

And, with more than several of my friends.

What I was so angry was about that someone could access my computer and make major changes without my OK, as they had with Bob ...and I also had refused the update for months!

I did not receive the message (as Bob had) with his password flashed across the screen. Major invasion of privacy!

And, then after the new installation. Yes, just as it had with him, it proceeded to still have access to my computer with the various messages.

The point which really incensed me was that the computer (after I had signed off) would sign itself back on.

This happened for more than several nights.

Unbelievable – who pays for the extra use of electricity, when I am so diligent to turn off my computer each night?

In the end, I called the Telus trouble people and then had the Windows 7 reinstalled.

By the by I am a little familiar with the new Windows 10 as it came installed with my new tablet, and I didn’t want it.

Never have I been so angry – never felt so infringed upon.
