Letters: Response to little girl restored faith in Langley hospital

Dear Editor,

I would like to extend a great big thank you to the wonderful emergency room staff working at Langley Memorial Hospital on Thursday, Oct. 16, 7-8 p.m.

My five-year-old daughter had taken a very hard fall and split the back of her head open on a concrete sidewalk.

The staff at LMH was amazing – I cannot emphasize that enough. From the nurses at the triage check-in, to the nurses in the rooms, to the doctor who cleaned and stitched her up.

I was very nervous when the nurse told me that she would probably need stitches, as like most kids, she is terrified of needles. The doctor was absolutely wonderful with her, and she didn’t even know she was getting stitched up.

I will shamefully admit that had we not been right across the street when the accident happened, LMH would not have been my first choice, as past trips to this ER and a hospital stay had left me feeling that the care towards the patients was seriously lacking, and it was not a place I wanted to bring my child.

However, the caring, patient, dedicated staff that tended to her this night has changed my mind.

I know LMH has received its fair share of bad press, so I wanted to take the time to pass along the positive experience my family and I had there. The staff was very efficient – we were in and out within an hour!

The nurses and the doctor were so caring towards a very young, scared, and hurt little girl, and they set the heart and nerves of a worried mom (with grandparents in tow) to rest.

I would like to extend my utmost thanks to all the staff on site that night.

M.B. Stigum Langley
