Editor: In light of the news from Mayor Jack Froese’s press conference on Friday, Nov. 7, where he provided a public record of council minutes, it appears Rick Green is once again trying to mislead the community.
At the all-candidates meeting on Oct. 28 and on the mayor candidates debate on Shaw TV, Green admitted that he backed the need for a new Brookswood Official Community Plan (OCP) when he was mayor.
Green knew the Township didn’t have the funds for the new OCP planning process, and he had no objection to the landowners providing the up-front financing (and being reimbursed when the land was eventually developed).
Green now adamantly denies knowing that landowners would be up-fronting the financing. Really? Claiming ignorance to the project that he himself initiated and was firmly committed to?
In accordance with the philosophy that development should pay its own way, having the private sector contribute the up-front financing for a planning process makes sense.
For an ex-mayor to now declare ignorance of the process that he was directly involved in starting makes no sense nor is it believable.
How can Green truthfully claim to know nothing when the public record of council minutes reveals otherwise?
On his website, Green purports to know everything about financing of every project and every other municipal decision detail.
It looks like Green has repeatedly spun so many issues to try to make this council look bad, he’s come to believe some of his own deceptive whoppers.
The ‘Unelection Campaign’ group’s wagon is hitched to Green’s and now they are both contaminated as he attempts more spin to save face.
Like he says, should he get elected, “The best predictor of future behavior is past behaviour”.
Editor's note — The council minutes provided at the press conference show that Green voted in favour of a motion to refer the request for landowner funding of the OCP to staff for further study, but was not present at a later meeting when council voted to go ahead with the plan.
