Editor: I would like to extend many thank yous to Langley RCMP, to the person who reported seeing my bike in the hands of an ‘unlikely’ individual, and in particular to Constable Kennard for his work in recovering my stolen road bike.
My family experienced a break-in to our workshop/shed at our home in Willoughby the evening of Tuesday, Oct. 9. Thankfully the only item missing was my rather expensive and well loved road bike. Const. Kennard arrived at our home shortly after the break-in was reported late Wednesday morning.
Fortunately not long after he was made aware of the theft, a concerned citizen called the RCMP to report seeing an expensive looking bike in Langley City. Though the description given in the report did not perfectly fit that of my missing bike, I thank Const. Kennard for making the decision to investigate further.
He did in fact locate and recover my bike. He even had the thoughtfulness to return it to me in person at home. The time frame from reporting the break-in to having my bike recovered was less than four hours. Const. Kennard spent a lot of time with my family showing us further ways to secure our shed. His time, knowledge and advice was greatly appreciated.
This occurrence has served as a wake-up call in many respects. One of the keys to being able to recover my bike was that I was able to provide the serial number to the police. Please use my story as a reminder to record serial numbers for all of your bikes and other personal property. It may save you from unnecessary heartache down the road.
I am grateful to know that Langley RCMP has dedicated, caring and professional members. I am also grateful to know that people in our community are attentive and call the police when something just doesn’t look right.
I was certainly lucky, but having caring professional people there to assist my family after a break-in surely does mean that more than just plain old luck resulted in a happy ending.Michelle Aspinall,
