The eyes of the world are watching, as the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Torch Relay continues on its historical journey through Langley to the city of Vancouver.
The torch will be in Langley for much of Monday, and the flame will stop at the Save-On-Foods’ Willoughby store location early Monday afternoon.
Save-On-Foods and Coca-Cola are using the occasion to present the Canadian Olympic Foundation with a $50,000 donation.
At the start of 2009 Coca-Cola, in participation with the Overwaitea Food Group, announced a commitment to the PowerAde Hometown Heroes program. Proceeds from sales of participating PowerAde products are being donated to the Canadian Olympic Foundation.
The foundation ensures all funds are specifically tailored toward athlete success.
The support from Overwaitea Food Group stores, which include Save-On-Foods and Price Smart stores, has generated $50,000 for the Canadian Olympic Foundation.
A presentation of the cheque from Coca-Cola will be made at the torch relay stop.
As part of the event, the store will serve Coca-Cola beverages. Members of the public will have an opportunity to see, touch and take pictures with an Olympic torch. Entertainment for the entire family will be available.
On its 106-day journey, the Olympic flame will be carried across Canada by 12,000 torchbearers. It will travel 45,000 kilometres and will pass through more than 1,000 communities across the country before arriving in Vancouver on Friday.
Entertainment at the store, located at 20255 64 Avenue, begins at 12:30 p.m. The torch will arrive at 1:41 p.m. and departs at 1:51 p.m.
The flame will travel from 200 Street onto 64 Avenue, and then onto 202 Street, right onto Save-On-Foods parking lot.
The flame will depart from the Save-On-Foods parking lot and turn right onto 64 Avenue.
After the stop at Save-On-Foods, the flame will travel back to 200 Street with torch bearers taking it into Langley City at about 2 p.m.
