More than 135 aspiring young swimmers – including 53 Olympians – converged on Walnut Grove pool Sunday for a novice meet.

The event was hosted by the Langley and Abbotsford Olympians Swim Club, explained office manager Shane Downey.

In addition to the two Olympian swim clubs, the Haney Seahorses (from Maple Ridge) and the Hyack Swim Club (from New Westminster and Coquitlam) also participated in the one-day swim meet.

“The meet provided fun and challenging racing for the novice swimmers,” Downey said.

“Novice meets are a great way for our swimmers to utilize their new swimming skills, while they push themselves to achieve new personal best times.”

Langley’s Sam Stewart-Beinder, 10, achieved a regional qualifying time in the boys 200-meter individual medley with a time of 3:53:26.

“This means that Sam is now able to attend invitational meets in the Lower Mainland. Way to go Sam!” Downey said.

Registration for the Langley Olympians Swim Club is ongoing. Anyone interested can call 604-532-5257 or visit the website at www.langleyolympians.com for more details.
