The Langley Blaze offence was smoking, scoring a combined 18 runs in a pair of games with the visiting Vancouver Cannons on Sunday at McLeod Park.

But unfortunately for the U18 baseball team, that was only good enough to pick up one win in two tries.

The Blaze won 9-2 in the opener before dropping a 10-9 decision in game two.

Langley is 1-2 through three games in the B.C. Premier Baseball League.

In the first contest, Langley led 3-0 after two innings before Vancouver clawed back with runs in the third and fourth to make it 3-2. But the Blaze put up three runs in both the fifth and sixth innings to blow the game open.

Andre Pelletier and Luke Horanski led the offence with three and two RBIs, respectively. Horanski scored two runs with a double while Pelletier hit a two-run home run and had another run-scoring single.

Kyle Ross picked up the win, scattering four hits and two runs over five and one-third innings of work. Only one of the runs was earned.

The second game was a back-and-forth affair .

Langley led 2-0 through three innings, but the Cannons exploded for five runs in the fourth and another two in the fifth to pull ahead 7-2. The Blaze responded with three runs in the bottom of the fifth and then four more in the sixth to reclaim the lead at 9-7.

But in the top of the seventh, Vancouver scored three times. Langley had runners on the corners with two outs, but failed to cash in the tying run.

Eric Broatch was tagged with the loss, surrendering three earned runs in just over an inning of work.

Griffin Andreychuk led the offence for the Blaze with three RBIs.

Michael Dagg went 3-for-3 with a double, an RBI and two runs scored.

Up next for the Blaze is a home game April 18 at McLeod Park against the White Rock Tritons.

Game time is 6:30 p.m.
