Blaze push win streak to six games

A perfect weekend pushed the Langley Blaze win streak to six games and top spot in the B.C. Premier Baseball League.

The Blaze used an offensive onslaught on Saturday, clubbing the North Delta Blue Jays 13-2 and 8-1, and then won a pair of close contests on Sunday, 3-2 and 2-1 over the Parksville Royals.

All four games were at McLeod Park.

The team leads the U18 baseball league with a 25-7 mark.

The Blaze scored seven runs in the second inning, which was more than enough for pitcher Jon Bauer, who went the distance, scattering five hits over five innings. He also struck out seven batters.

The offence was led by Matt Cratty’s three RBIs and Tyler Barlow who had a pair.

Lead-off hitter Mike Krische reached base three times, with two hits and a walk, and scored all three times.

Jerod Bartnik and Ricky Bertrand drove in a pair of runs apiece, while Karl Malacek tossed five innings of solid ball, allowing one run on five hits and one walk. He also struck out seven.

Dustin Houle, Josh Wray and Krische all had doubles.

Blaze 3 Royals 2

Sunday’s series was much closer and low scoring, and game one required extra innings, with Bartnik’s single scoring Barlow in the bottom of the eighth.

Devon Stewart struck out nine batters before giving way to Tom Robson in the eighth, and Robson got the final two outs for the victory.

Blaze 2 Royals 1

Houle drove in both runs, one in the first and one in the fifth, scoring Krische both times.

Kyle Joel allowed no runs and one hit over six innings, with six strikeouts and a walk for the victory.
