Bobcats knock off top-ranked Rapids

Langley's Brookswood Secondary wins Top Ten Shootout

The Brookswood Bobcats navigated the Riverside Rapids to take top spot at the prestigious Top Ten Shootout.

The Bobcats defeated the Rapids — the top-ranked AAA senior girls basketball team in the province — 68-63 in the championship final at Coquitlam’s Centennial Secondary.

Luca Schmidt earned the tournament’s most valuable player award while Lindsay Wand was a first team all-star.

The ’Cats entered the tournament ranked fourth in the province.

In the team’s other games, they opened with a 78-38 win over Kitsilano, beat Maple Ridge 84-64 and then edged Oak Bay 54-49 in the semifinals.

Oak Bay is ranked second in the province and Maple Ridge fifth.
