Canada Winter Games: A medal of each colour for Shmyr

Courtney Shmyr skated to the gold medal in the 500m race at the Canada Winter Games. The 18-year-old won four medals at the Games.

Courtney Shmyr made the most of her visit to Halifax for the Canada Winter Games.

The 18-year-old from Langley won a medal of each colour in her various speed skating events.

Shmyr helped Team B.C. win silver on Thursday afternoon at the St. Margaret’s Centre in Halifax in the 3,000m relay event.

She also won gold in the 500m event and bronze in the 1,500m race earlier in the week.

Shmyr placed fourth in the 1,000m race and she is now in Italy for the world junior short track speed skating championships.

The Walnut Grove graduate now lives and trains in Calgary full-time.
