The Langley Chiefs drew first blood.
Darnell Dyck snapped a 3-3 tie with just under eight minutes remaining in game one of the team's best-of-seven BCHL Coastal Conference semifinal series against the Surrey Eagles.
And that goal stood up as the winner in the 4-3 victory on Monday night at the South Surrey Arena.
Both junior A hockey clubs were coming off four-game sweeps in their opening series, but it was the Chiefs who kept their perfect post-season record intact.
Game two is tonight (Tuesday) also in Surrey, before the series shifts to the Langley Events Centre for games three and four on Thursday and Friday night.
In game one, Brad McGowan opened the scoring with a power-play goal 11:32 into the contest. But before intermission, Tim Daly pulled Langley back on even terms.
Josh Myers, on a Chiefs power play, gave Langley a brief lead 6:36 into the second, before Scott Holm tied the score 20 seconds later.
And after Robert Lindores put the Eagles ahead 3-2, Matt Ius struck back 1:42 later to square things up at three heading into the third.
Wyatt Galley made 32 saves for the win as Surrey outshot Langley 35-33.
Ius, who had a goal and two assists, leads all post-season scorers with four goals and eight assists.
