One game after extending their point streak to eight games (7-0-1-0), the Langley Rivermen saw their season-best run of success come to a crashing halt.
The Rivermen were walloped 8-1 by the host Chilliwack Chiefs at the Prospera Centre on Saturday night.
The lopsided loss came on the heels of a 5-4 home-ice victory the night before at the George Preston Recreation Centre against the Victoria Grizzlies.
The split leaves Langley’s junior A hockey team with a record of 17-15-5-2 and their 41 points have them sitting in fourth place in the BCHL’s Mainland Division, just one point back of third place.
Langley scored four times in the opening 20 minutes against the Grizzlies and led 5-2 after 40 minutes before hanging on for the one-goal victory.
Five Rivermen players — Cameron Ginnetti, Gavin Payne, Sean Gulka, Zac Masson and Max Kaufman — each scored once while Brendan Budy set up a pair of goals.
Bo Didur stopped 44 of 48 shots as his team was outshot 48-38.
Chilliwack avenged a 9-4 loss three weeks ago with their 8-1 victory, leading 1-0 after one and 4-0 after two periods.
The Chiefs continued to pour things on with four goals in the first 13 minutes of the third period before Eric Butte broke the shutout bid with a late power-play goal.
The Rivermen are back on the road this weekend with a pair of games in Trail on Friday night and then Salmon Arm on Saturday night.
