The snow couldn't stop the Langley Peewee A3 Eagles hockey team from cleaning up their community.
On Sunday, Feb. 26, the team of 17 boys, aged 12 and 13, swapped their hockey sticks for garbage pickers and collectively picked up 45 large bags of litter in less than two hours.
Their route started at Sportsplex arena, went down to Langley Events Centre, over to Twin Rinks, and ended at the George Preston Recreation Centre. In total, the boys cleaned up 16 kilometres of street, four rinks, three parks, and two bus loops.
“The boys were amazing!” said Christine Hylands, a parent volunteer. “The snow was a challenge, but we just told the kids to go for a treasure hunt. It’s so good for the kids to see what they can achieve as a team off the ice and to learn that they can make a difference in the community.”
The Eagles have entered a video showcasing their effort into the Chevrolet Good Deeds Cup contest in hopes to bring home the Good Deeds Cup for performing the most impressive good deed in Canada by a Canadian Peewee Minor Hockey team.
