Bailey Herbert won seven medals — including four gold — as the Langley Olympians went up against the top swimmers from across the country at the Canadian age group championships.
The meet featured more than 800 of the top swimmers between the ages of 11 and 18 and was held July 27 to 31 in Calgary.
Langley was represented by a team of seven.
Herbert, 13, won gold in both the 200 and 400 individual medley events, and the 200 breaststroke and butterfly events. She also took silver in the 50 breast, 100 breast and 100 butterfly and seventh in the 400 freestyle. She also broke two club records in the 100 butterfly and 100 breaststroke.
Joshua Kim, 14, also set a pair of new Olympians club records in the 50 and 100 breaststroke events, respectively. He also won silver in both those races, as well as in the 200 breaststroke and bronze in the 200 individual medley. Kim was also eighth in the 200 freestyle.
Josie Field, 14, rounded out the Langley medal haul with a bronze in the 200 butterfly.
“It’s exciting to see our swimmers succeed at these high level meets and be competitive with other swimmers all over Canada,” said Olympians head coach Brian Metcalfe.
“It really shows how hard working they are (and) the results are a great way to end the season.”
Brayden Kells, 14, was fifth in both the 100 and 200 breaststroke events and Justin Schramm, 18, was sixth in the 800 freestyle.
Hugh McNeil, 13, and Sevi Parr, 12, as well as Kim, Kells, Herbert and Field all had multiple personal bests at the meet.
