Three more victories improved the Walnut Grove Gators junior girls basketball team to 17-0 on the season. The Gators — ranked No. 1 in the province — beat No. 2 Kelowna in the finals of a Cloverdale tournament on Saturday.

In a battle of the top two junior girls basketball teams in the province, it was the No. 1 Walnut Grove Gators besting the No. 2 Kelowna Owls.

The two teams met in the finals of the Lord Tweedsmuir Invitational tournament on Saturday with Walnut Grove prevailing 63-55.

Tavia Rowell scored 30 points in the final as the Gators came from behind to improve to 17-0.

The Gators also beat the Riverside Rapids 72-24 and the Maple Ridge Ramblers 49-36.

Rolande Taylor and Natalia Monro shared player of the game honours in the final, while Rowell and Alex Tadic earned the honour in the first two games.
