Herbert, McNeill lead Olympians medal haul

Langley swimmers find plenty of podium finishes

Bailey Herbert captured a pair of bronze medals in the pool at the Senior Circuit Meet.

Held at the Guildford Recreation Centre in Surrey, Herbert was one of seven members of the Langley Olympians Swim Club who attended the elite meet on Saturday.

She captured bronze in both the women’s 200 and 400 individual medley events.

Another 22 LOSC swimmers from the national and provincial group also saw action in the pool at the Hyack Icebreaker Invitational.

Hugh McNeill, 13, won a pair of gold in the 200 backstroke and 400 freestyle, while Ayush Kaul, 14, won gold in the 200 backstroke. McNeill also won silver in the 200 IM and bronze in the 100 freestyle.

Other medal winners included: Mia Goretic, 13, three silver medals (200 backstroke, 200 individual medley, 400 freestyle); Piyush Kaul, 11, two silver medals (100 backstroke, 200 backstroke) and a bronze (100 freestyle); Reese Blunden, 14, silver (200 individual medley) and bronze (400 freestyle); Reagen Bedard, 14, bronze (100 freestyle); Isobel McNeill, 10, bronze (400 freestyle); Katie Schroeder, 11, bronze (100 freestyle); and Milana Solar, 14, bronze (200 individual medley).

And former Olympians swimmer Hillary Metcalfe competed for UBC at the 2017 Texas Grand Prix, an international meet with teams from Canada, the U.S. and Great Britain, an featuring many Olympic swimmers.

Metcalfe was second in the B final for the 200 individual medley, first in the C final for the 200 breaststroke and fourth in the C final for the 400 IM.
