In most Canadian communities, local hockey rinks are the beating heart of the culture.

More than just ice surfaces, according to a new survey commissioned by Kraft Canada, 93 per cent of B.C. hockey parents agree the local rink is the social hub of their community, yet 71 per cent also report that these arenas are in need of repairs and upgrades.

And this year’s Kraft Hockeyville contest will see $1 million in prizes presented to 16 Canadian communities.

The  grand prize will be $100,000 in arena upgrades as well as an opportunity to host a NHL pre-season game; one prize of $100,000 in arena upgrades; two prizes of $50,000 each in arena upgrades; and 12 $25,000 prizes in arena upgrades.
