The Langley Rebels U18 girls fastpitch team has taken the key step on their road to the provincial championships.
The Rebels won the District 8 title at Noel Booth Park, edging the Abbotsford Outlaws 2-1 in the championship game.
“The girls played excellent; they were focused,†said Rebels assistant coach Ron Adams, who has been with the Rebels for many years, even though he doesn’t have any kids on the team. “They came together as a team and they proved it in the districts.â€
The final game against a very strong Outlaws team was a nailbiter with Langley pitcher Cassidy Komorowski pitching a great game, and the team played the best game of the season when they needed to, noted Rebels manager Shannin Pinette.
The team is now looking forward to the Canadian Open at Softball City next weekend before they move on to the provincials starting July 16 in Nanaimo.
The Rebels are coming off a major rebuild after finishing third in the provincials last year.
This is their final year as the Rebels, and some of the players have been together for years. Their third-place result at last year’s B.C. tournament forced them to dismantle the team, as they were only allowed to keep five of the original players.
