Langley rider signs on as ambassador for Prospera Valley GranFondo

Christian Meier marvels at race route

A local professional cyclist will serve as an official pro ride ambassador for this summer’s Prospera Valley GranFondo.

Langley’s Christian Meier is very familiar with the scenic and challenging terrain of the 160-km cycling route.

“I’ve trained on these roads in the Fraser Valley for years and this route has it all,” he said.

The Prospera Valley GranFondo will be held July 22, beginning and ending at the Fort Langley Historical Site.

Fifteen hundred road cyclists of all levels of ability are expected to take part in one of the three designated route races.

The 26-year-old Meier is currently riding for the Australian team GreenEdge on the World Tour.

He is currently with the team racing in the century-old cycling classi Giro d’Italia, a 3,476-km long stage race from May 5 to 27.

With the Prospera Valley GranFondo less than three months away, new road cyclists are invited to an organized group ride every Sunday which will help them prepare for either the 80-km MedioFondo or the 3-km FamilyFondo.

The training rides begin each Sunday at 9 a.m. sharp, leaving from Bicycle Sports Pacific (19950 Willowbrook Dr.)
