In early December, the Langley Stampeders will be defending their B.C. Community Football League midget division title.
A 28-0 win over the Victoria Spartans into the B.C. semifinal at McLeod Stadium has vaulted the Stamps in the provincial title game.
All the BCCFL 12 man football final provincial championship games will be played at McLeod Stadium Dec. 4.
The Stampeders are going to the BCCFL midget championship game for the fourth year in a row.
This year’s opponents will be the North Langley Kodiaks, who defeated North Surrey Bears 17-7 at Surrey’s Bear Creek Park.
This promises to be a full day of action, as Langley hosts teams from around the province.
In the midget semifinal match-up pitting the Stamps against the Spartans, neither team gave the other an inch during a hard-fought opening quarter.
The Stampeders did put together a seven play march, from their 11 yard marker, but were forced to kick the ball away by the Spartans.
Langley scored on their first possession of the second stanza, moving from the Victoria 46 to pay dirt with quarterback Devante Wilson scoring.
Victoria responded with a return march from their 46, but were shut out on a wide 23 yard field goal attempt.
Two series later, the Stampeders recovered a Spartan fumble on the 19, turning it into a touchdown by Sheldon Gangloff.
The teams went to the dressing rooms with the host Stampeders leading 14-0.
The third quarter again started as a defensive battle.
The game was broken open when Azuka Okoli rushed from the Stamps’ 44 yard line to the Victoria five, setting up Langley’s third touchdown of the day, this time by Wes Foss as the hosts carried a big 21-0 lead into the final quarter.
The fourth quarter saw the Stampeders’ defence come up big, sacking the Victoria quarterback on successive plays which caused a turnover on downs at the Victoria 27.
Nathan Murray completed the Stamps’ scoring with a 27 yard touchdown.
