The Nanaimo Timbermen grabbed the reins from start to finish, leaving the Langley Thunder in their dust Wednesday at the Langley Events Centre.
Unfortunately for the Thunder, any hope of making the playoffs is beginning to disintegrate, a mere eight games into their Western Lacrosse Association campaign.
Their 11-7 loss to the visiting Timbermen on June 22 drops the Thunder’s record to a WLA-worst 1-7.
The Thunder sit four points back of the Timbermen (3-5) and Burnaby Lakers (3-4) and five behind the 3-3-1 New Westminster Salmonbellies, who hold down the fourth and final playoff spot in the seven-team league.
Wednesday at the LEC, the Timbermen never trailed, jumping ahead 4-0 in the first period.
The Timbermen managed to stay just ahead of the Thunder the rest of the way. The closest margin was three goals, with the T-Men leading 8-5 and 9-6 at various times during the third period.
The T-Men outshot the Thunder 54-46 through three periods.
Langley’s Cole Shafer was named the game’s second star, scoring three goals and adding one assist for the home team.
The Thunder will look for their second win of the season Saturday, when they visit the Coquitlam Sports Centre to take on the Adanacs. Game time is 7 p.m.
After playing in Burnaby against the Lakers Tuesday, the Thunder return home Wednesday to host New Westminster. Game time at the Langley Events Centre on June 29 is 7:45 p.m.
