Langley trio taken in WHL bantam draft

A trio of Langley AAA Eagles forwards had their names called at last week’s annual Western Hockey League bantam draft.

Ryan Donaldson was taken in the fifth round, 102nd overall, by the Kelowna Rockets, while Kyle Raymond (seventh round, 179th overall) and Ryan Rensby (10th round, 205th overall) were both taken by the Everett Silvertips.

The Rockets described Donaldson, who was listed at six-foot-one and 145 pounds, as a highly skilled forward, with good skating ability and size.

Raymond had 35 goals and 67 points in 45 games for Langley, while Rensby had 35 goals and 59 points.

“Kyle has a big body and is able to get up and down the ice very well,” the Silvertips wrote on their website about he six-foot-four 179-pound winger. “Having such a big body, he’ll take some time to fill out and develop.”

“Ryan is a two-way forward who plays hard, works the boards well and has good skill and vision with some jump to his game,” the team said.
