Birdies on the first four holes in Saturday's final round helped propel Langley's Adam Cornelson to victory at the Vancouver Open.
Cornelson shot a final round six-under-par 66 at Swan-e-Set Resort and Country Club in Pitt Meadows.
He finished the 54-hole tournament at 12-under par 204 to win by one stroke over both Michael Gligic and Riley Wheeldon, who finished tied for second place.
All three are PGA Tour Canada regulars.
Wheeldon shot a final round 65 which included seven birdies, while Gligic — who was paired with Cornelson — had a three-shot lead at the turn on Saturday.
But Cornelson made birdies on 10 and 11 while Gligic bogeyed 14 to pull the golfers even.
And on 17, Cornelson made a birdie while his opponent bogeyed, giving him the lead for the first time going into the final hole.
Gligic had a chance at a 10-footer to force a playoff, but came up short.
The victory earned Cornelson $10,000, tying his career-high payday. It is also his second career victory at the course after winning the West Coast Golf Group Pro-Am in 2013 in a five-hole playoff.
"My driver is the strength of my game and to a lot of players, the course seems intimidating off the tee with a lot of fescue grass on both sides of the fairway," he said.
"So I guess it gives me a bit of an advantage that I can take driver out on holes where some guys can't.
"We also play at Swan-e-Set often enough were I am comfortable on the greens so I can make my share of birdies."
Winning the Vancouver Open was a big accomplishment.
"Being a local player, it's a very special event for me," Cornelson said.
"There are some big names on the trophy who are now on the Web.com (tour) and it's the biggest home tournament we have.
"I'm hoping I can keep that trend of Vancouver Open champions moving onto the Web.com this year with my play on the PGA Tour Canada."
The 26-year-old Cornelson plays out of the Vancouver Golf Club. Prior to that, he played at the University of New Orleans from 2005 to 2009 after graduating from Langley Secondary in 2005.
Hazelmere's Ryan Williams was fourth at eight-under.
