Walnut Grove's Meg Harradine is joining the Trinity Western track and field and cross country programs.

Meg Harradine adds depth and versatility to the Trinity Western Spartans.

Harradine, who graduated from Walnut Grove Secondary in June and has been a key member of the Gators' track and cross-country teams for the past five years, is joining the Spartans.

"We are enthusiastic to have such a versatile endurance athlete joining Trinity Western University," said Spartans coach Laurier Primeau.

“I’m thrilled to be able to have the opportunity to continue my education and running career in cross-country and track at Trinity Western,” said Harradine, who plans to study sciences.

“It is a university with an excellent reputation for academics and athletics and it has the added advantage of being so close to my home.”

Harradine ran the 400 and 800m events at the B.C. high school track and field championships last month — where she finished 10th and seventh, respectively — as well as running cross-country in the fall.

With the Spartans, Harradine is expected to run cross-country, and then in the 600m, 1000m and with both the 4x400 and 4x800 relay teams.

"That kind of range is critical to our team's success both on the track and in the trails," Primeau said.

Harradine helped Walnut Grove's cross country team win a pair of junior provincial championships in 2009 and 2010 and the track and field team win multiple Fraser Valley championships.

She also helped the Gators' 4x400 team win silver at last month's B.C. high school championships.

When not running, Harradine — an honour roll student throughout her time at Walnut Grove — volunteers with the Free the Children Foundation, was part of the school's homework club, and last summer, volunteered at the Mountain View Conservation Centre.
