The Langley bantam C2 Lightning are the PCAHA female bantam playoff champions after a 4-0 win over Ridge Meadows.

Jia Singh scored a hat trick and Jade Reid did not allow a single puck to get past her as the Langley Lightning closed their season by winning the bantam Purple Group playoff banner.

The Lightning bantam C2 team defeated Meadow Ridge 4-0 last week (March 2) in Maple Ridge to capture top spot.

Shae Forbes had the other goal for Langley.

With a roster made up primarily of first-year bantam players, coach Steve Forbes said the season began as developmental season as they were up against many second year bantam players.

In addition to that, the team dealt with a severe flu bug — some games saw them with only nine skaters — and missing their starting goaltender for much of the second half with a concussion.

The Lightning were a .500 squad for the first half of the season and also earned a silver medal at a tournament in Kamloops.

“But as the season wore on, the girls got better and better,” Forbes said.

“And our real success was in the playoffs.”

The Langley Girls Ice Hockey Association team went 4-1-1 in the playoff round to advance to the title game, where they avenged their 2-0 playoff loss to Meadow Ridge.

Reid finished the playoff run with three shutouts.

The team is made up of Madeline Craig, Drew Forbes, Shae Forbes, Divya Gill, Ruby Graber, Terra Graber, Haley Marshall, Rylie Kubilius, Maddison Kubilius

Jade Reid, Erin Saunder, Katie Schmidt  and Jia Singh.
