Local police off to Olympics

A number of Langley police officers are up close and personal with the Olympics.

Last week, the first contingent of Langley’s finest reported for their temporary assignments at the upcoming Olympics. These Mounties will perform a variety of duties including: strategic communications, general duty (enforcement) within Whistler Village, event security, traffic enforcement on the Sea to Sky Highway, ceremonial duties wearing their red serge, torch security as well as troop responsibilities.

It amounts to around 10 per cent of the detachment. However, no interruption of police service in the Langleys is anticipated during this deployment, said police spokesperson Cpl. Holly Marks.

Officers are not allowed to take leave during the Games and regular court commitments will be suspended for the duration of the events to allow members to focus on serving the community, she said.
