Nathan Kanter will be the new voice of the Vancouver Giants.

On Wednesday, May 31, the Langley-based team announced Kanter will be the teams new play-by-play announcer and director of media relations and broadcasting in the 2023-24 season.

Kanter, 30, spent the last two season in Regina as manager of digital media, fan, and community engagement with the Regina Pats, managing and producing content, including social media, in-venue and online at reginapats.com.

Originally from Toronto, and “not a Leafs fan,” Kanter said he played hockey up until he went to Western University, ending his career as a left winger in a house league team, before he decided he would do better covering the sport than playing it.

“I was not that good,” Kanter laughed.

Currently a Regina resident, Kanter expects he will be in B.C. around July.

It won’t be his first B.C. move.

Previously, he was the play-by-play broadcaster and communications coordinator for the Salmon Arm Silverbacks in the BCHL from 2019-21, after spending two seasons as the voice of the Battlefords North Stars in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League.

“First off, I’d like to thank the Toigo family, Dale Saip, as well as the Giants management and coaching staff for this amazing opportunity,” Kanter said.

“I’d also like to thank the Regina Pats organization for two exciting seasons where I learned a lot and had the fortune of working with great people.

Prior to moving to the Battlefords in 2016, he graduated from Western University in London, Ont. with a master’s degree in journalism and then served as the Digital Managing Editor at the Western Gazette, the school’s campus newspaper, for a year.

“I’m truly ecstatic to sink my teeth back into play-by-play this coming fall, especially when I look at the abundance of young talent on the Giants roster,” Kanter enthused.

“I can’t think of a better place to hone my craft.”

Vice President Peter Toigo thanked departing Giants play-by-play broadcaster Eddie Gregory.

“It was great having Eddie as the voice of the Vancouver Giants organization this past season and we wish him the very best in his future endeavours,” Toigo said.
