The BC Seniors Games in Langley do many things, but one message they send is that those 55 and up in this province are “alive and kicking.â€
That was the message from June Parsons, president of the Games society at Wednesday night’s opening ceremonies at the Langley Events Centre.
She spoke to the athletes, “3,800 this year, who have attended to enjoy this unique experience, the competitive, friendly aspect of the games.â€
The ceremonies saw speeches of welcome from dignitaries including Township Mayor Jack Froese and Acting Mayor of Langley City Ted Schaffer.
Athletes representing each of the regional zones from around the province marched into the LEC’s arena, with a sizeable contingent from Zone 3, which includes Langley.
The games continue through to Saturday, with about 25 events ranging from whist to lawn bowling, track and field to dragonboat racing.
