An injured foot may have hobbled Django Lovett, but it wasn’t going to stop him.
Lovett was able to clear the necessary qualifying height of 2.05m at the Canadian junior national track and field championships over the weekend at Winnipeg’s University of Manitoba campus.
Lovett finished second in the high jump, and in addition to the medal, he earned a spot on Canada’s Pan American junior track and field team.
The squad will compete in Miranmar, Fla. from July 22-24.
Lovett, a Brookswood graduate who attends the University of New Mexico, was one of four local athletes competing in Winnipeg, and all four managed to find the podium.
Jade Vaughan ran the second leg for B.C. Athletics in the 4x400 relay helping the quartet take gold.
Vaughan, who competes with the Coquitlam Cheetahs Track and Field Club, also finished seventh in the 400m hurdles event.
The Walnut Grove graduate is attending the University of Texas-Arlington in the fall.
Spencer Prince, a Brookswood graduate, who along with Lovett trains with the Valley Royals Track and Field Club, won a pair of medals in Winnipeg.
Prince’s throw of 16.33m in the shot put earned him a silver, while his hammer throw of 61.1m won bronze.
Prince attends Illinois State University.
And Carolyn Sutherland, who attends Brookswood and is a member of the Langley Mustangs Track and Field Club, won silver in the long jump with a leap of 5.66m.
