Brayden Herbert, 8, pushes through the butterfly stroke at the Langley Olympians novice swim meet at Walnut Grove Community Centre pool on Saturday.

Chelsey Salli won silver and bronze at the Canadian world trials in Victoria, narrowly missing a spot on Canada’s FINA world championship team.

The 21-year-old took silver in the 100 breast — missing a spot on the Canadian team by 0.3 seconds —  and bronze in the 50 breast. She was also fourth in the 200 breast.

Three other Langley Olympians Swim Club members were also at the meet. Jake Tapp, 24, made the finals in the 200 IM and the 100 fly, finishing fourth and sixth, respectively.

And Hillary, 14, and Martha Metcalfe, 16, set new club records in the women’s 200 free and the women’s 1500 free events, respectively.

Back at home in Langley, LOSC hosted their Annual Long Course Meet at Walnut Grove Pool. The meet was attended by approximately 300 swimmers from 12 Clubs from all over the Lower Mainland. This was the first long course meet of the season. The Langley athletes performed exceptionally well with a large number of them placing in the top 3 and coming away with best times and a couple of meet records.
