It was a win one, lose one stretch for the Pacific Junior Hockey League’s Langley Knights.
On Thursday, the Knights played their second home game at the George Preston Recreation Centre in the junior B team’s short history, and came away with a solid 4-1 win over the Abbotsford Pilots.
Carson Rose with consecutive power play goals in the first and second periods and Jacob Fricks with a pair staked the hosts to a 4-0 lead.
At the 17:22 mark of the final frame, Abbotsford’s Brady Lawlor scored on a power play to ruin Knights goaltender Nickolas Trenciansky’s shutout bid.
The Knights had a slight, 45-44 edge in shots.
Two nights later, the Knights travelled to the Harry Jerome Rec Centre, where they were edged 4-3 by the North Vancouver Wolf Pack.
The Wolf Pack’s Brodyn Nielsen scored the winner, snapping a 3-3 tie with 1:56 remaining in regulation time.
Dylan McCann and Jackson Surbey gave Langley a 2-0 lead with goals that came under a minute apart early in the opening frame.
That seemed to spark the Wolf Pack, who tallied the final three goals of the frame to take a 3-2 lead into the intermission.
At the 3:35 mark of the second period, Levi De Waal scored the lone goal of the frame to tie the game at 3-3.
There was no more scoring after that, until Nielsen’s game winner in the waning moments of the contest.
The Knights, who own a respectable 2-2 record early in the PJHL season, are back in action this Thursday, Sept. 25, when they host the Port Moody Panthers at the George Preston Recreation Centre.
Game time is 7:30 p.m.
Aldergrove Kodiaks
There are ones straight across the board for the defending PJHL champion Kodiaks, who have a win, a loss, a tie, and an overtime loss to show for their four games thus far this season.
After a 4-0 victory over the Ridge Meadows Flames last Wednesday, the Kodiaks took it on the chin the following night at Richmond Arena, falling 7-1 to the host Richmond Sockeyes.
The Sockeyes led 4-0 after the first period and 5-0 after 40 minutes before outscoring the Kodiaks 2-1 in the final frame.
With Richmond leading 7-0, Wyatt Versluis tallied the Kodiaks’ lone goal, finding the net on an Aldergrove power play at the 8:58 mark of the third period.
The night before, the Kodiaks blanked the Flames.
Aaron Markin in the first period, Cameron Davitt and Brandon Dolby during the middle frame, and Quinncy Leroux on a late power play with 2:09 to go in regulation scored for the Kodiaks, who outshot the Flames 48-27.
The Kodiaks final goal came on a five-minute powerplay, after the Flames’ Jordan Rendle was given a major for head contact at the 14:23 mark of the third period.
