Spartans' Offereins earns night’s big honour

Trinity Western Spartans Jarrod Offereins was the recipient of the Spartan Complete Champion Award at the athletic department's year-end awards banquet on April 3.

Jarrod Offereins grabbed the night’s most prestigious honour as the lone recipient of the Spartan Complete Champion Award.

The fifth-year setter/libero for the Trinity Western Spartans men’s volleyball team received the award at the school’s annual athletic banquet last week (April 3) at the Langley Events Centre.

Close to 300 people, including athletes, coaches, faculty, sponsors, friends and family, attended the ceremony.

Other award winners included:

Calum Innes (track and field) and Kristen Funk (soccer) were the male and female athletes of the year, respectively.

Alison Jackson (track and field/cross country) won the Bahat Melles Award for servant leadership.

A pair of soccer players, Nikki Bryne and Jason Wiens, were the respective scholar athletes of the year.

Krista Gommeringer (soccer) and Joel De Schiffart (track and field/cross country) were the respective rookies of the year.

Amber Brown (volleyball) and Brayden Volkenant (soccer) won the School of Business Spartan Athlete Awards.

Hazel Ross (track and field) and Josh Stephenson (hockey) won the Human Kinetics Spartan Athlete Awards.

The Student Therapy awards went to Amanda Chesley (women’s basketball) and Aaron Hansen (men’s soccer).

The Big Kahuna/Adidas Canada scholarship award winners were Royal Richardson (volleyball) and Taylor Johnson (soccer).

The Canada West and CIS award winners, as well as all of the graduating seniors, were also honoured.

The CIS academic all-Canadians from last year were also recognized, as was former men’s volleyball player Ben Ball, who won the Sport BC University Athlete of the Year Award for 2011/12 last month.
