Stealth streak ends

Vancouver fall short in Calgary as Roughnecks snap Stealth's two-game winning streak

The Vancouver Stealth ran into a hot goaltender and the end result was the team’s modest two-game winning streak coming to an end.

Calgary Roughnecks goaltender Frankie Scigliano stopped 36 shots to lead his team past the Stealth 16-13 in National Lacrosse League action on Saturday night.

Calgary (1-6) picked up its first win of the season while the Stealth fell to 3-4.

The game was played at Calgary’s Scotiabank Saddledome and was the back-end of a home-and-home series. The Stealth had won 13-9 the week before.

Vancouver led 3-1 early in the second quarter before the Roughnecks took the lead with six goals to lead 7-6 at the half. And it was still a one-goal game heading into the fourth with Calgary up 9-8 but Curtis Dickson scored three straight for the home side to put the game out of reach.

Dickson led Calgary with seven goals and nine points while Rhys Duch countered with four goals and eight points for Vancouver.

Corey Small also had a big game for the Stealth with four goals and seven points.

The Roughnecks made Vancouver pay on the power play with five goals in seven man-advantage opportunities.

The Stealth will look to return to the win column as they host the Minnesota Swarm at the Langley Events Centre on Saturday night (7 p.m.).

The Swarm are 3-4 on the season.
