Langley pulls into first-place tie with Victoria; teams play two of final six games head-to-head

Back-to-back victories has given the Langley Thunder a share of top spot in the Western Lacrosse Association standings.

The senior A men's lacrosse team followed up a 9-4 home victory over the Maple Ridge Burrards on July 3 with a 10-5 doubling of the New Westminster Salmonbellies on July 4 at Queen's Park Arena.

The wins improve the Thunder to 7-3-2 and their 16 points pulls them into a share of top spot with the Victoria Shamrocks. Both teams have six games remaining.

The teams still have two head-to-head games remaining.

Against the ’Bellies, the teams were tied at two after one period, but Langley seized control with a five-goal second period, with four of those goals coming with the man advantage.

Langley led 7-3 after two periods and were up 10-3 before New West closed with a pair of goals.

Newly-acquired sniper Dane Dobbie led the way with three goals and an assist and Athan Iannucci had a hat trick.

Garrett Billings (one goal, three assists), Shayne Jackson (one goal, two assists), Mitch McMichael (one goal, one assist) and Adam Jones (two assists) all had multi-point games.

Alex Crepinsek had the other goal.

And Nick Rose, making his first start since being acquired along with Dobbie in trade on June 30, stopped 33 shots for the win. He also had an assist.

The Thunder will look to make it three wins in a row when they visit Maple Ridge's Planet Ice and battle the Burrards on July 7
